This piece is called “Ypsilanti Underwear.” The original 36” x 48” acrylic on canvas was painted in winter, 2019. This work was purely based on fun and my fascination with Ypsi’s unique history. For over 50 years in the late 1800s and the early 1900s, the Ypsilanti Underwear Company was located along the banks of the Huron River near Forest Avenue. A scandalous mural of a woman in head-to-toe long underwear was visible on the side of the building. I was inspired by that mural and combined it with my interest in human anatomy to create this giant painting, now on display at Stardust.
